 | History: | 14 year-old girl, sent to us for MRI diagnostics from the orthodontist because of difficulties chewing. | |
 | Pathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease : | Only 2% of Ewing sarcomas are located at the base of the skull. | |
 | Radiological findings: |
<- view CT 1
CT 1: Shown are the calcifications in the mass. The dorsal hind wall of the maxillary sinus seems to be intact. Characteristically, Ewing sarcomas calcify in this region, which they don't do in the extremities or in the pelvic area.
<- view MRI 1
MRI 1: T1-SE after contrast, transversal and
<- view MRI 2
MRI 2: T1-SE after contrast, coronal: Inhomogenic contrasting soft tissue tumor with central necrosis. The mass is growing frontally to the right maxillary sinus. The hind wall of the sinus does not show destruction - in fact, it shows compression.
<- view MRI 3
MRI 3: coronal slice in T2-weighted image with fat saturation.
<- view MRI 4
MRI 4: transversal slice in T2-weighted image.
The low signal intensity of the mass points to susceptibily artifacts and thereby to calcifications.
