 | Region-Organ: | Pelvis-Urinary bladder | |
 | Most likely etiology: | congenital | |
 | History: | Micro-umbilical hernia. No oozing navel. Temporary right lower quadrant abdominal discomfort in the course of a mesenterial lymphadenitis. | |
 | Pathomorphology or Pathophysiology of this disease : | Urachus means urinary tract and is derived from the embryonal alantois duct, which connects the cloaca with the alantois. It reaches from the midline of the later urinary bladder to the navel and usually degenerates later to the become the median umbilical ligament. It can persist partially or completely as an urachal fistula and can be the cause of difficult navel inflammation in babies. | |
 | Radiological findings: |
<- view Ultrasound 1
Ultrasound 1: transversal lower abdomen. Under the linea alba, one sees the bulls-eye form of the urachus with central fluid.
<- view Ultrasound 2
Ultrasound 2: Longitudinal image, median to the lower abdomen. Tubular structure with central fluid.
<- view Ultrasound 3
Ultrasound 3: Enlarged image of the first image. The bulls-eye structure shows the fluid-filled, persistent urachus centrally.
<- view Ultrasound 4
Ultrasound 4: Image of the urachus in the Siescape-mode. On the right of the image there is a somewhat filled urinary bladder seen, which to the left of it shows the tubular non-echogenic structure of the urachus.

 | Diagnosis confirmation: | Imaging including endoscopy | |
 | Which DD would be also possible with the radiological findings: | N/A | |
 | Course / Prognosis / Frequency / Other : | No pathologic relevance as long as the navel is not oozing or as long as there is no infection of the naval, or rather naval granuloma. | |
